Ballet Brigade Brings Dance and Joy to Bacolod

Ballet Philippines recently took its Ballet Brigade to Bacolod, spreading the beauty of ballet and fostering cultural exchange across the region. Here’s a quick look at the highlights of this unforgettable trip:

A First for Sibato Integrated School

Our journey to Sibato Integrated School was an hour-long trek from Sagay, but the experience was worth every mile. For the first time, students got to learn ballet and watch it live, with Dani and Mark performing a pas de deux that left everyone in awe. The day ended with a special Binanog dance performed by the Sulod-Bukidnon people, inspired by the Philippine eagle and accompanied by an agung ensemble.

Dance Workshop at Silay Institute

We received a warm welcome at Silay Institute, complete with a marching band! After teaching students an original choreography inspired by the Russian and Chinese dances from The Nutcracker, our soloists Dani and Mark capped the day with the stunning Moszkowski Waltz, mounted by Artistic Director Mikhail Martynyuk.

Opening A Life of Fashion at The Negros Museum

The Ballet Brigade had the honor of opening Patis Tesoro’s retrospective exhibition at The Negros Museum. The museum’s foundation made the Bacolod Ballet Brigade possible, and it was a privilege to celebrate this partnership alongside the exhibit that highlighted Tesoro’s artistic legacy.

Suyac Island’s Inspiring Community

Our visit to Suyac Island brought smiles to the students of Suyac Elementary School, where we held a workshop amid the breathtaking Suyac Island Mangrove Eco-Park. Locals shared how the mangroves protected their community during Typhoon Yolanda, reminding us of the resilience of nature and people alike.

The Ballet Brigade is all about connecting communities through the transformative power of dance, and Bacolod welcomed us with open arms and unforgettable stories.
