Atty. Rico V. Domingo is the Immediate President of the Philippine Bar Association (PBA), an established and widely respected organization of volunteer lawyers in the country. He is also a proud product of the State University’s Elementary, High School, and College of Arts and Science. His Bachelor of Law Degree (LI. B equivalent to Juris Doctor) comes from the University of the Philippines where he placed in the top 10 percentile of this class.

Atty. Domingo obtained his Master of Laws (LI.M) degree from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law (in Indiana, USA). He also earned substantial units at the Kelly Business School, which soon led to a Master of Business Administration degree. At the Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Atty. Domingo endeavored into Post-Graduate Studies specializing in Trade Practice of Trade Policy: Economic, Negotiations and Rule.

Atty. Domingo was admitted to: the Philippine Bar, State of New York Bar, US Federal District Courts, Philippine Intellectual Property Office, as well as the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Washington DC.

AN EDUCATOR, AUTHOR, AND IP EXPERT

His work in academia spans over a decade. Since 2000, Atty. Domingo has been teaching Constitutional Law, Media Law and Ethics, Remedial Law as well as Intellectual Property Law at the Ateneo School of Law. He also taught at the Konrad Adenauer Asian Center for Journalism, Communication Department of the ADMU.

Atty. Domingo is an accredited lecturer by the Philippine Supreme Court for Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE). In addition to that, he is also a lecturer and faculty member of the New York State Bar Association’s Continuing Legal Education (CLE). It is a post that lends unprecedented distinction and recognition for Atty. Domingo’s stature in the global legal community.

Atty. Domingo was the first chair to lead the Videogram Regulatory Board (now the Optical Media Board) and General Counsel for the Film Board. He is the Asia Pacific Regional Council and Deputy Director of Operations of the Motion Picture Export Association of America/Motion Picture Association of America.

The well- respected lawyer and IP expert led the SRI International-Washington D.C Research Group. He took on the role as Lead Author for The Main Report on Improving Adjudication Procedures for the Resolution of Intellectual Property Rights Cases in the Philippines. Substantial findings and recommendations from the report would later serve as the pillars for what we now know as the 1993 Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines (Republic Act No. 8293).

Membership and active participation in the global legal community include: the American Bar Association (ABA) Sections of Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law, International Law and Practice, Entertainment and Sports Industries, and Law Practice Management; Association Internationale pour la Protection de le Propriete Industrielle (AIPPI); the International Trademark Association (INTA); Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA), International Pacific Bar Association (IPBA).

Atty. Domingo is the Country Group Head and Councilor of the ASEAN Intellectual Property Association (AIPA). He is also a Trustee of the Intellectual Property Association of the Philippines (IPAP).

PRIVATE PRACTICE

In 1992, Atty. Domingo decided to pursue a multi-jurisdictional law practice through R.V DOMINGO & ASSOCIATES. He concurrently founded a business and competitive intelligence consultancy firm, which specializes in intellectual property rights protection, risk management services and litigation support, among others.

Throughout his practice, Atty. Domingo has litigated watershed and precedential cases up to the Philippine Supreme Court. These have served as landmark jurisprudence in Intellectual Property, Corporation and Remedial Law. His body of work and countless contributions to the legal community have established Atty. Rico V. Domingo as the “Philippine Law Expert” in various international litigation pending before both the US and the EU Courts of Justice.

Very recently, the esteemed legal mind lent his experience and expertise to a noble cause that aims to address the proliferation in the mass media of disinformation. As the Convenor of the Movement Against Disinformation (MAD), Atty. Domingo now dedicates his efforts to addressing the spread of disinformation and false news in the Internet and social media platforms.

Lorna Patajo-Kapunan graduated from the University of the Philippines AB Political Science (1973) and LLB (Law) 1978 and had seminar courses in Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation (JIII) Tokyo (1997); National Institute of Humanitarian Law, San Remo Italy (September 2005); Summer Course International Humanitarian Law, Magdalene College, Cambridge University, London UK (July 2010).
