It used to be that pets were kept solely for purposes of herding and protection. Today, they are regarded as members of the family–raised, nurtured and loved almost like children. This close, dynamic and mutually-beneficial relationship is referred to as the Human & Animal Bond Experience (HAB).
Dr. Carmela Arreola, a school counselor and Mental Health consultant explains: HAB means our pets do not only benefit from us, but we likewise benefit greatly from them in return. From this relationship, the definition of true love is derived.
