It’s Never Too Late for Ballet

Always wanted to dance ballet, but never got around to taking classes? Ballet Philippines Dance School (BPDS) gives adults the chance to learn ballet with face-to-face Adult Ballet classes.

Ballet Philippines Dance School (BPDS)

Have you always wanted to learn how to dance ballet? Did you take ballet classes when you were young, stopped, and then wanted to go back, but thought your chance had passed?
Ballet Philippines now offers two types of Adult Ballet classes, sparking a renewed love for dance.

According to the Ballet Philippines Dance School Director, Rhea Dumdum Bautista: “Classes are open to those 15-years-old and above, whether male or female.” The school head and ballerine who has performed on the grand stage countless times adds that there are also classes for adults with no background in dance whatsoever. “Adult Ballet One classes, on the other hand, is a basic class or what you would call the foundation class for those taking ballet.”

“Anyone who really likes dancing, especially those who always wanted to dance ballet before, can now take our adult ballet classes,” she invites. When asked what is needed to be able to join these classes, her quick response was, “All you need is the willingness to learn. You can come in fresh with no experience in ballet whatsoever. You can take Ballet Zero classes,” assures Rhea.

Benefits of Adult Ballet Classes

Aside from exercise, ballet helps enhance mind and body connection. Working through sequences and choreography also boosts focus as well as memory. There have been many studies correlating how learning a new skill improves one’s mental health and has been known to delay the onset of dementia and other degenerative diseases. In an era when stress has somewhat become part of modern living, ballet rings in the opportunity to zone out, connect with your body, and leave all worries outside the studio doors.

What To Wear

We all have a clear image in our minds of how ballerinas look and dress. And while many are quick to shy away from the tutus, Rhea explains: “Yes, ballet shoes are a must but aside from these, you can wear anything like tights and leotards and there are many beautiful ballet skirts sold in the market. For those who may feel a little self-conscious, I suggest active wear or anything where the ballet teacher can see enough of your figure so you can be aligned and corrected properly.”

Ballet Philippines Dance School Class Schedules

Since the start of the 53rd Season of Ballet Philippines, requests and inquiries have been pouring in. Apart from the school’s children’s classes, adult students have also expressed an interest in ballet. Rhea declares, “Our love for dance is eternal. Come and express your love for dancing. This is your chance to dance! It’s never too late to try, it’s never too late to realize a dream you once had so come and join Adult Ballet with BP Dance School!”

Online adult ballet classes are held every Monday and Saturday via Zoom. In person classes happen on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and are held at the 6th Floor of SM Aura Premier.
